A Virtual Light up a Life, Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice

With mass participation events put on lockdown for 2020, the whole hospice movement had to reconsider how to run their Light up a Life campaign and make it just as special and engaging for their supporters as it always is in person.

With Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice we were asked to help take this special event online. We helped to create an appeal – along with an online social campaign – which would engage supporters who couldn’t meet in person to remember and celebrate their loved ones and see the lights be switched on at the hospice.

The online service went ahead in December, full of readings, music, and time for reflection. We even helped Birmingham fill their ‘Light up a Life at Home’ boxes, which were sent to supporters with pop up Christmas trees (as well as hot chocolates, tea, biscuits – to mimic the usual chilly outdoor event the team are used to).

This campaign was Birmingham’s most successful Light up a Life to date (adding to their 63% Individual Giving year-on-year increase), smashing all targets and, importantly, making sure the community still felt the support from their local hospice when they needed it more than ever.

From Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice

“Working with Pebblebeach on various projects over the last 18 months has been amazing. The knowledge, insight, creativity, dedication and productivity they bring to the table has meant that our campaigns are more successful than ever. I am really excited and looking forward to continuing to work with the Pebblebeach team.”
