Hello there, Fundraisers!
I don’t know about you, but I am just about done with this cold, gloomy weather. With Christmas and New Year quickly becoming a distant memory, 2023 is moving on in full force. So grab a blanket and a hot drink and tuck into February’s Word on the Beach.
This month’s edition sees Children’s Mental Health Week, plus LGBTQ+ History Month and Cancer Prevention Action Week, Random Acts of Kindness Day and of course National Pizza Day! There are plenty more official days and weeks throughout February that are of equal importance, but these ones in particular are close to my heart (and stomach!).
Talking of hearts, I know what you’re thinking…February…Valentine’s Day? I can’t forget to mention 14 February now, can I?
So in the spirit of true love, now seems like an appropriate time to say that here at Pebblebeach, we love what we do and all the clients we work with. You could say we are polyamorous fundraisers. On that note, I’m going to go before I say too much.
Love, Matt.

A spotlight on…LGBTQ+ History Month
It’s LGBTQ+ History Month. And this year, we mark a historic milestone for LGBTQ+ people because, for the first time in over 200 years, the community has been officially counted in the Census. We now know that 1.5 million LGBTQ+ people live in England and Wales. As the UK charity, Stonewall, says: “After years of invisibility, we are now officially part of our country’s story.”
You can find out about some key moments in LGBTQ+ history by clicking the button below and you’ll find a great education pack for young people here.

Let’s talk about…Cancer Prevention Action Week
According to the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF), 1,100 people are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK.
So, between 20-26 February, organisations across the UK are joining forces for Cancer Prevention Action Week. This year’s focus is processed meat – and its link to bowel cancer.
Now is a good time to get talking to friends and loved ones about the risks of processed food. To help you in your chats, you’ll find lots of useful information – including a Cancer Health Check tool and tasty, healthy recipes via the button below.

Get ready for…Random Acts of Kindness Day
Mark 17 February in your diary and get ready to be kind to yourself and others on, what we think, is the nicest (and kindest!) day of the year. Will you tell someone something you appreciate about them? Or will you listen to an uplifting podcast or leave a compliment-filled post-it note on a colleague’s desk?
And you don’t just need to stick to 17 February. You’ll find some wonderfully kind ideas – for every day of the year by clicking the button below.

Time for…National Pizza Day!
How lucky are we that we have a whole 24 hours dedicated to pizza?! Whether you’re a margherita, pepperoni or, dare we say it, a pineappley, Hawaiian fan, 9 February (today!) is officially the day to enjoy your pizza of choice.
And it turns out there’s quite a bit of history behind this national day of carbs. If you’re interested, you can find out more here.

Reflecting on…Pebblebeach and Place2Be
This week is Children’s Mental Health Week, spearheaded by the UK’s leading children’s mental health charity in schools, Place2Be.
Throughout 2022, we were delighted to work with the team at Place2Be; from helping them draw out their core messages to delivering full DM and digital campaigns, we presented their donors with strong propositions they could understand and get behind.
